 | | | The Foreign Press Association of Greece (FPA) was founded in 1916 and is the only
officially recognized organization for foreign media representatives in Greece. The main goal
of this non-profit association is to promote the professional duties of its members.
The total number of the Association's members is approximately 300.
These include 100 Active Members, who are foreign correspondents representing 150
foreign media from 40 countries.
The rest are Associate Members, namely, employees of the Diplomatic Corps, Press Attaches,
Communications and Public Relations consultants or other prominent people of Greek public
life interested in keeping up with FPA's progress and events.
In addition, the FPA hosts a number of Honorary Members, who are retired correspondents.
The Association's activities involve annual press-conferences with the Prime Minister,
press-conferences with key Cabinet members and influential people from the financial sector,
as well as other sectors of special interest to the foreign correspondents.
Moreover, there is a variety of events, such as exhibitions, lectures and receptions
organized at the FPA's premises. A library and a fully-equipped working room also exists
for use by its Active Members.
The FPA is housed on 23, Akademias Street, in a neo-classical building owned by the Agricultural
Bank of Greece. The Bank, as recommended by the late Greek statesman Constantine Caramanlis, granted
use of the building to the Foreign Press correspondents in Greece in gratitude of their contribution
to informing international public opinion during the military junta that ruled the country between 1967 and 1974.
