Loukanikos, the Greek Protest Dog, Dies (The Wall Street Journal)

ATHENS–Greece’s most famous protester, Loukanikos, who was feted as one of the 100 most recognized personalities of 2011 by Time Magazine during the height of the Greek crisis, has died. He was 10.Loukanikos, a stray dog of mixed race, earned his nickname–which means sausage in Greek—from one of his favorite snack foods fed to him by fellow protesters. He became a celebrity after he was repeatedly seen leading lines of demonstrators in the Greek capital where he would frequently bark at the opposing ranks of riot police.
